Students Unable to Open Lessons Using Small Displays

On March 4th at 11:52 AM PT, we became aware of a bug that caused students using small display resolutions to receive a "Something Went Wrong" error message when trying to access portions of the ThinkCERCA application. The issue mainly affected students using iPads. Students using a desktop, laptop, or Chromebook devices were not impacted. As of March 5th at 2:01 PT, a bug fix has been released to correct this issue.

Switching Customers to Classic Effective November 26th at 3 p.m. CT

Effective November 26th at 3 p.m. PT, we will be switching partners back to the ThinkCERCA Classic experience until we are confident that no school is at risk of losing student work. To prepare for the switch, we recommend that any in-progress Writing Lessons be completed by this date.

Our number one priority as an organization is ensuring educators like you have access to reliable, high-quality resources that support student growth. Until this problem is resolved for all customers, we must err on the side of caution. You and your students are counting on us.

As a growth mindset organization, it’s important that we acknowledge where mistakes were made, learn from those, and commit to doing better for our partners. We recognize that we have work to do in order to regain your trust. Switching our valued partners back to ThinkCERCA Classic is the first step in this process.

ThinkCERCA Classic Recommendation

Educators who want to proceed with caution can assign Writing Lessons in the ThinkCERCA Classic experience, where applicable, by checking “Assign ThinkCERCA Classic experience” during the assignment process. If this checkbox does not appear, it means the lesson has not been updated to the new Writing Lesson experience and will already assign the Classic experience to students. ThinkCERCA Classic is an alternative design for Writing Lessons, and there have been no reported cases of lost student work with ThinkCERCA Classic.

Please note, a fix was released for the lost student work error on September 6th. To be 100% certain that students are using the updated version of ThinkCERCA that has this fix installed, we recommend running a hard refresh on any learn.thinkcerca.com page. Additionally, a popup message was activated on September 17th that alerts students when their work is at risk of not being saved.

While fixes have been implemented to protect student work, we respect teachers' and students' wishes to proceed with caution by using ThinkCERCA Classic. Please reach out to support@thinkcerca.com or your dedicated Success Manager if you would like assistance with assigning, modeling, or grading in ThinkCERCA Classic.

New Warning Message Implemented

On September 17th, the ThinkCERCA team added a new warning message to notify users when their work is at risk of not being saved. The message states, "Connection error: work may not save. If you have written work, we recommend copying it into another document as a precautionary step. Then, try reloading the page." This alert will appear if the lesson has attempted to autosave and the save does not complete (which could be due to a number of reasons, including lost wifi connection).

Error Saving Student Work in the Draft Step

On September 5th, the ThinkCERCA team discovered a bug that caused—in some cases—student work to not save while in the draft step of a Writing Lesson. A fix was deployed on September 6th to prevent the loss of student work. This error was caused by a GraphQL bug.

Recommended user actions: To be certain that teachers and students are using the most accurate version of ThinkCERCA (which has the fix deployed), the ThinkCERCA Support team recommends that all users log out of ThinkCERCA and run a hard refresh on any learn.thinkcerca.com page to clear the cache.

If you experience ongoing errors or if a designated fix does not work, please email support@thinkcerca.com immediately.
